So what happens when you want to try out a Prefs setting without saving
it? Use saves, any change is permanent. If you want to keep ENV: on HD,
use HDEnv. I used this for several years, until I discovered HappyENV.
HDEnv keeps a separate Env directory on your hard drive, but instead of
copying everything at boot time, it only copies updated files and
deletes temporary one.

So you consider the option of trying out a setting without making it
permanent useless? Want to buy a Mac? :)
